    March 27, 2018 /

Well, after a whirlwind trip to Chicago, Illinois is ticked off our ‘states to see’ list. And since we included some Amtrak-Enabled day trip to Milwaukee and Kalamazoo, Wisconsin and Michigan are done too: talk about a big week! We’re on the homeward stretch with seeing all 50 US states, with only about 13 or 14 to go. Exciting times! So what did we get up to? I’m glad you asked. Buckle in and hear all about our Chicago, Milwaukee and Kalamazoo escapades… Maybe you’ll find some recommendations for your own travelling adventures! Race and Representation in Popular Culture – What Black Panther Teaches Us

    March 20, 2018 /

Representation of race in popular culture is, like many aspects of media consumption, a point of social contention. Marvel’s recently-released Black Panther provides a brilliant entry point for considering some key points about the issue. And having had the chance to watch Black Panther in cinemas last week, I felt inspired to talk about it. As a white woman, what do we mean when we say representation? Does it matter? If so, why, and what can we do about it? [DISCLAIMER: I thought this movie was brilliant. You’ll probably read that a few more times in the post. While I’ll do my best to avoid spoilers, just be aware that…

Knowing Your Worth – Setting Prices as a Freelancer

    March 12, 2018 /

So today I’m going to talk about what you’re worth. And what I’m worth. And how to ensure we’re not being undervalued to help you safeguard your time and energy from being wasted. Now to someone just starting out as a freelancer, the buzzword appears to be ‘experience’. Everyone is familiar with the painful paradox that faces many school- and university-leavers. You need experience to get a job, but…

Creating Habits to Achieve the Success You Want

    March 5, 2018 /

One of the most mythical and mystical ideas in the standard human life is the concept of motivation; many of us see it as integral to finding success in life, to achieving our goals, to getting where we want to go. But the funny thing about motivation is that it’s also a slippery, capricious creature, hard to pin down, and even harder to harness to your will. The likelihood that it’ll be available to you when you require it in order to achieve your goals in the timeframe you want? Almost nonexistent. So we need something else; we need something that will bear us up and keep us on the…
